L. Fritz Gruber writes in his foreword to the catalogue: “In a relatively short time Rudolf Kicken has succeeded in gaining for himself an internationally renowned name as photo-gallerist; having first established himself in Aachen, being then wise enough to continue his work in Cologne, and finally now a gallery with quite ambitious environment. He has brought together works for exhibitions that were often far more than mere sales-and-promotion exhibitions. His photo-historical and photo one-man shows – in which very rare pieces were often shown – were at times enriched by the addition of precious loans, thus better orienting the works on sale for the benefit of those interested. This intention to give a broad view is also seen in his catalogues, which answer, beyond any commercial usefulness, higher cultural demands by serving as important sources of information.”
This publication constitutes catalogue No. 6 published by the gallery. It was published on the occasion of the exhibition with the same title at Galerie Rudolf Kicken, Cologne, Oct. 17 – Nov. 30, 1981, and in New York City, Nov. 6 – 8, 1981.
