Kaoru Ohto

1929–2020

Kaoru Ohto’s (Japenese, 1929–2020) photographic beginnings go back to 1950, when he participated in the Hiroshima Photographic Salon that November. An important teacher was Kunio Masaoka (1908–1978). The Museum of Modern Art in New York purchased two of Ohto’s works as early as 1950. Kazuhiko Fukuda, editor of magazine KOUGA, established the contact to Otto Steinert, which led to his inclusion in the second subjektive fotografie exhibition. The photographer has been active as a regional leader of the photo group Nikakai.
