Richard Avedon
EXHIBITION Jul 14 — Sep 25, 2001
Exhibition Text
Parallel to the big retrospective at the Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg, KICKEN II shows several works of one of the most important stars of international photography: Richard Avedon.
Since the end of the 1940s, Avedon has continued to set milestones not only in fashion photography. He was the first to combine the realism of outdoor shots with the static of the studio situation. His famous photographs show models in front of an undefined emptiness of a wide studio space, glaringly beamed on with artificial light. Isolated in such a way the personality of the model appears with high emotional intensity. At the same time, Avedon 's, images go beyond the actual representation and become expression of cultural streams. Kicken II presents in this small exhibit some of the most famous portraits of the great American photographer, such as "Andy Warhol and members of The Factory", New York City, October 30, 1969".
As hommage to the photographer's 75th birthday, (he was born on July 16th -1926), KICKEN I dedicates F.C. Gundlach a retrospective with vintage prints of his works from July 14th until September 25th. Since the 1950s he has been one of the few internationally renowned German fashion photographers.
