Biography
1896 born in Berlin, son of dutch parents. 1913–1914 studied painting and sculpture in Berlin-Charlottenburg. 1915–1916 apprentice in bookshop. 1917 becomes book- and artdealer in Holland. After 1918 takes part in Dadda-Movement in Berlin. 1919 first photomontages, Metropolis et al. 1922–1924 studies at the "Bauhaus" with Johannes Itten. 1926 friendship with UMBO. 1927 final emigration to Holland. 1930–1933 works as portrait photographer. 1933–1937 founder and director of the "Nieuwe Kunstschool" in Amsterdam. 1935–1960 teacher for art design at the Academy for Fine Arts in Den Haag. 1944–1945 resistance. Since 1946 working as painter and sculptor in Wassenaar. Died in 1983

The portfolio contains ten signed original photographs and is published in a limited edition of twenty five copies and five artist's proofs in Roman numerals. The photographs were processed to archival standard and printed on Agfa-Gevaert paper, Portriga Rapid 111, by Ulrich Görlich under the supervision of Paul Citroen.
